Cyclists complete Stratford to Monte Carlo ride for charity

CYCLISTS have completed the most ‘gruelling’ challenge of their lives, biking non-stop from Stratford to Monte Carlo.

The seven-strong team left the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on April 23 – Shakespeare’s Birthday – and completed the 1,000 mile bike ride three days later, arriving at the Monaco Grand Prix circuit.

Organiser and Stratford hotelier Gregor Ritchie teamed up with his friends to create the ‘Ritchie’s Racers’ group, who have so far raised nearly £15,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research.

The 48-year-old said: “Everyone in our group has personal experience of how cancer affects lives and knows Macmillan do an excellent job in the fight for a cure.

“The ride itself was an adventure. We rode 24 hours a day which saw us cycle through farm tracks in the middle of the night in dense, freezing fog and even across roads covered in frogs on the banks of the Rhone.

“It was a memorable experience and we are already planning next year.”
