THE COFFERS of two charities have been given a boost thanks to the efforts of eager cyclists.

The 11th MacRide event saw riders set off from Stratford Park and Ride and take on routes of 25 miles, 100km, or 100 miles through the south Warwickshire and Cotswolds countryside.

More than 700 cyclists helped to raise a total of £32,000, which will be split equally between Macmillan Cancer Support and Stratford Hospital’s £1million appeal.

Rob Gullen, MacRide organiser said: “I am delighted with how successful the day was and the fact we were able to raise so much money for two fantastic causes. We’re already looking forward to the MacRide Tour event in May 2016.”

Denys Shortt OBE, chairman of the £1million appeal, added: “We are so grateful to Rob and his team for organising such a superb event.

“This £16,000 is a huge help towards the appeal and we are extremely grateful to everyone that donated and took part.”
