VILLAGERS in Long Compton gave an overwhelming thumbs-up in Stratford District Council’s first neighbourhood plan referendum.
Neighbourhood planning is a key component of the Government’s Localism Act, which aims to devolve greater powers to councils and neighbourhoods.
Voters in Long Compton went to the polls on Thursday to respond to the question – “Do you want Stratford-on-Avon District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Long Compton to help decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”
In total 321 villagers voted (a 51.6 per cent turnout) – with 296 (92.2 per cent) saying yes, with just 25 (7.8 per cent) against.
A number of communities in Stratford district are also going through the process of drawing up Neighbourhood Plans – setting out how they would like their area to develop.
