Mrs Shakespeare - Bear Pit Theatre

Stratford Editorial 4th Jul, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

SHAKESPEARE gets in touch with his feminine side at Stratford’s Bear Pit Theatre.

The acclaimed one woman show , written by Ian Wild and performed by Irene Kelleher, runs from July 18 to 23.

The comedy from Wild Productions finds the Bard reincarnated in the present day as a woman.

Mrs Shakespeare, finding herself in a mental asylum, comes to the conclusion that she has made a complete mess of writing ‘Hamlet’ 400 years earlier.

Armed with a quill and beset by a rebellious cast of characters who are anxious not to be rewritten, she embarks on an epic reformulation of theatre’s most famous text under the new title of ‘Ophelia’. Her psychiatrist and the original dramatis personae of the play, however, are so against the idea, they contrive between them to send her mad.
