THE LONDON Haydn Quartet swap the Sydney Opera House for Leamington’s Pump Rooms on Friday January 29.

Having toured to Australia in October, including playing in the iconic Sydney Opera House, the quartet perform in Leamington as part of the International String Quartet series.

The quartet is one of the world’s leading period instrument quartets, playing on gut strings and concentrating on music of the classical period.

For the Leamington concert, the programme has four quartets written between 1781 and 1804 – Hummel’s Quartet No 2 Opus 30; Beethoven’s Quartet Opus 18 No 4; Haydn’s Quartet Opus 42 and Quartet Opus 64 No 5, nicknamed The Lark, because of the soaring tune on the first violin in the opening movement.

The monthly series at the Pump Rooms continues on February 26 when the Signum Quartet from Germany plays in Leamington for the first time, and the season ends on March 18 with the Piatti Quartet.

Tickets for all Leamington Music concerts are available from the Leamington Town Hall box office. Visit www.royalspacentreandtownhall.co.uk or call 01926 334418.
