KATE Rusby takes to the RSC stage in Stratford with strings this summer.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter will be joined at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on Sunday August 2 by a string ensemble to perform new arrangements of songs from her back catalogue stretching back over two decades, together with tracks from her new album Ghost.

And before that she plays Warwick Arts Centre on Thursday April 23 as part of her spring tour.

The Yorkshire-born songstress will also be accompanied by her regular band made up of some of Britain’s finest folk exponents.

Kate was born into a family of musicians in Barnsley in 1973, and after learning to play the guitar, the fiddle, and the piano, as well as to sing, she played many local folk festivals as a child and teenager, before joining the all-female Celtic folk band The Poozies.

Her 1995 breakthrough album – a collaboration with her friend and fellow Barnsley folk singer Kathryn Roberts – was simply titled Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts.

In 1997, with the help of her family, she recorded and released her first solo album, Hourglass. Since then she has gone on to receive acclaim both home and abroad.

Among of string of best-selling albums are two collections of Christmas songs – Sweet Bells and While Mortals Sleep – and her latest studio album Ghost was released last summer.
