IS REVENGED best served hot? That is the question posed in The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband at The Bear Pit Theatre in Stratford.

This dark comedy of contemporary love and marriage by Debbie Isitt is directed by Sarah Campbell, making her Bear Pit debut, and stars Charlotte Froud, Natasha Hall and David Mears.

Middle-aged Kenneth (David Mears) has wife Hilary (Charlotte Froud) and mistress Laura (Natasha Hall) to contend – and neither is happy.

Sarah explained: “Hilary, a stately culinary goddess is left by her delinquent husband Kenneth for the younger and prettier Laura.

“But Laura cannot cook to save her life. However, it is not her life that is in danger, as the philandering wretch finds himself caught between two women for whom ‘hell hath no fury’.

“Not surprisingly the middle age husband wants to have his cake and eat it, with of course the inevitable consequences on his varying appetites.

“The script is magically creative and the audiences will witness some very raw speeches from both the wounded wife and his mistress, bringing a slightly absurd yet surreal interpretation to a male middle age affair.”

The production runs from May 8 to 16.

Tickets are priced from £10 and are available online at www.thebearpit.org.uk or in person at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre box office.
