Stratford Editorial 1st Apr, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

ANTONY Sher will gives an up-close and intimate insight into Shakespeare’s Falstaff and the RSC at work in a special event on Monday April 27 marking the publication of his new book, Year of the Fat Knight: The Falstaff Diaries.

The acclaimed actor, who is currently appearing in Death of a Salesman in the RST, shares his experience of performing one of Shakespeare’s best-known and most popular characters in Gregory Doran’s RSC production of the two parts of Henry IV.

He reveals how, in researching and rehearsing the role, he overcame doubts about playing the part at all; how he wrestled with the body suit needed to bulk him up; and what he discovered about the complexities and contradictions of this comic yet often dangerous personality.

The talk will be followed by a book signing.

Year of the Fat Knight: The Falstaff Diaries is published by Nick Hern Books.

Visit www.rsc.org.uk for tickets priced £5. The talk starts at 2pm.
