Families looking for the ultimate fun trip out this summer whatever the weather should look no further than The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham and The Observer has teamed up with the centre to offer lucky readers the chance to win one of four family day passes to the attraction.
This is a milestone year for the attraction as it celebrates its 20th anniversary and this summer unveils some incredible new developments that promise to bring visitors closer than ever before to the magical underwater world.
The attraction is home to the UK’s only 360° Ocean Tunnel, which was the world’s first when it opened 20 years ago. This iconic centrepiece has recently undergone an anniversary makeover and the tunnel is now completely transparent throughout and transports visitors to life beneath the ocean’s waves – without the need for a snorkel.
There’s also Clownfish Kingdom, a brand new addition for summer 2016, that features an array of interactive tanks so visitors can come nose-to-fin with some incredible underwater species including the popular Clownfish and Blue Tang. Not to mention some weird and wonderful new residents including the Marine Comet and Tassled filefish.
If that wasn’t enough, The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham has also launched brand new Behind the Scenes Tours.
This special package can make the perfect addition to any day out and for just £3.50 per person*, guests are able to journey deep behind the scenes with one of the expert aquarists to discover how the attraction cares for the thousands of marine and fresh-water creatures that live there.
Tour visitors are granted privileged access to the working areas usually closed to the public where they can learn about the extensive breeding, research and conservation programmes, and of course see how the fish food is prepared.
Earlier this year the attraction welcomed some new Gentoo Penguin arrivals from Calgary that joined its existing colony as part of its Breed, Rescue, Protect programme.
Penguin Ice Adventure is an icy cool exhibit that gives a real insight into the lives and quirky habits of the world’s fastest underwater swimming penguins.
The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham transports visitors to an amazing underwater world, where they get to see incredible sea life from all over the planet, from the coast of Britain and the chilly Antarctic, to the tropical waters of the Caribbean.
The aquarium is home to over 2,000 creatures, such as sharks, as well as a rescued Giant Green Sea Turtle, jellyfish, piranha, octopus and rays.
* Can only be purchased alongside entry into The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham. If pre-booked in advance online, the Behind the Scenes Tour and entry into the attraction is available from just £14.50.
